Carl Vaz (London, UK 1963) made his first film at 18. “Are you going backwards, Or are you going forwards?” (1981) about the Brixton Riots was shown widely in Europe. He produced experimental video work at the South London Marxist Film Co-operative, studied politics at the London School of Economics and Communication Arts at Sheffield City Polytechnic. In 1986 he moved to the US, studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the San Francisco Art Institute. Since 2016 he lives in Brussels, Belgium and makes video, photography and graphic work.
